SV: Many people like to put labels on music.
How would you describe your style and would you group it into a label like R&B, Hip Hop, Jazz, etc?
D: I consider my music to be R&B with elements of Jazz and Soul.
SV: Who are you inspired by?
D: I am heavily influenced by Tina Turner. She is my idol.
SV:
How do you feel about the current state of music and what artist today touches your soul the most?
D: I feel as if the industry is going through a tough
time where artists don't really feel free to experiment for fear that the money won't be there. I'm really impressed
by Solange Knowles’s latest project. Even though I think it has yet to hit the 200k mark, I believe it was a well put
together solid effort. I put it on and listen straight through.
SV:
Do you write all of your material and if so, how long have you been writing?
D: Yes I write all of my material. I have been writing
since 2003.
SV: What
subject do you find yourself drawn to the most?
D: I usually write about a broad range of subjects depending
on what is going on in my life, but for Good Girl Blues it focused on love and relationships.
SV: Is there anything else that you feel our readers should know about Dominique?
D:
I hope that people can see how determined I am to make good music that they can enjoy for years to come.
SV: What would you say to an inspiring artist who is pursuing his/her dreams?
D: I would
let them know that being a singer/songwriter is a hard task that requires work just like any other profession. I would also
let them know if they really want this, then follow their dream straight to the top regardless of how many no's come before
the one yes.
