The artist of the month is Salakida

Last updated on 06-01-2008
Salakida is a native of Oakland,California, living in Atlanta, GA. Her talents
have allowed her to travel from Alabama to South Africa and everywhere in between, writing and sharing stages with some
of the most promising new names in Soul music, as well as some R&B pioneers, including Dwayne Wiggins (Tony Toni Tone),
Jaguar Wright, Kenny Lattimore, N’Dambi, Tre Hardsen (Pharcyde), Blackalicious, Anthony David (Universal) PJ Morton,
Algebra (Kedar Entertainment), Carol Riddick, and many more. Through blissfully anthemic songs like “Good Woman”
and the people’s favorite “Sick Days” Salakida has established herself as one to watch. Through
her self titled debut “Salakida” we were introduced to her sound, a melodic mix of Soul-pop,
hip-hop, rock, and you-name-it that she calls Blippie Funk, or “Black Hippie Funk”. A self described
free spirit, love and freedom continue as the main themes on her upcoming sophomore release “The Resurrection”,
tentatively set for a June 1st release. The lead single from the new CD “See You Again” (produced
by Salakida and Brandon A. Thomas) sets the tone of the album, with Salakida declaring “…just feel like having
some fun and making music…” in a soaring soprano backed by aggressive guitars and a wall of ethereal background
vocals. Where “Salakida” played as an intimate love letter, “The Resurrection” is a rock-soul chronicle
of a newly independent woman exploring the challenges and joys of dating and commitment in our changing society, over booming
hip-hop beats. The year 2008 looks to be set to push this rising star to the front of the pack ; Salakida’s
distinctive soulful yet angelic vocals can be heard gracing the first soul album/act to gain the Wu-Tang stamp of approval,
Stone Mecca on their debut “First Contact” , and on rising star guitarist Brandon A. Thomas’ “A Soul
Acoustic”. For more up to the minute information on Salakida, please visit www.myspace.com/salakida, www.cdbaby.com/salakida

What People Are Saying About “Salakida”:
“On the album’s [Stone Mecca: First Contact] closer, “In Love”, vocalist Salakida offers her
dynamic vocal ability to the song …. This could prove to be the album’s best track as far as performance, production
and lyrics.” -D.L. Chandler, Okayplayer
“Wow!
With a sound she calls ‘Blippie Funk’ (Black Hippie Funk), Salakida is definitely onto something. The Oakland
native/Atlanta transplant gives us a glimpse into her soul, with her voice and guitar, in a refreshingly frank manner. As
I listen to the album over and over, I can’t say enough good things about this beautiful, young songstress.” (4.8
Crates) - DJ Random, Earwax: In Your Ear
“Though Kali [Salakida] could safely rely on her gorgeous,
sultry vocals, she's gone for a more ambitious sound, the self-coined "blippie funk." Crossing the instrumental
hip-hop beats of her native Oakland with the deep soul of her adopted home of Atlanta, this glowing R&B hybrid recalls
india.arie and Jaguar, but also moves beyond them” - Editor, Download.com
"...singer
Salakida, packing a big voice in a little body performing acoustic guitar-accompanied tales of everyday doldrums' escape
with a sound between Tracy Chapman and India.Arie. " - Later in Decatur, CreativLoafing Atlanta
“Salakida’s
album is hopeful and realistic. I would have to say that Salakida definitely represents someone whom you need to let your
ears get to know.” – Kinetic, ATL Lowdown
”Salakida must mean “Strong beautiful vocals”
because that is the order of the day on the debut album by new vocalist Salakida; a debut full of originality and soul.”
--- ArtHaus NYC
“Salakida is your artist. You dare not overlook nor sleep on this … project.” New Flava Magazine
“Whether it’s the sound of her acoustic guitar or her sweet, yet strong voice,
you’ll vibe out to Salakida, leaving your cares behind.” – Nikki Carter, Brown Gurl Magazine
